    Galaxy becomes competitor to iPad
    San Diego Sun
    Friday 3rd September, 2010

Samsung has unveiled its likely competitor to the Apple iPad.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab is the latest device to feature iPad type applications and also comes with mobile video conferencing and a video chat function.

Shown off for the first time at the Berlin IFA consumer electronics fair, the thin tablet device attracted large crowds.

The device weighs 13.4 ounces and has a 7-inch touch screen, making it about larger than an Apple iPhone, but roughly a third smaller than an iPad.

Galaxy comes with Google’s Android 2.2 operating system, which can run HTML5 and Adobe’s Flash Player, unlike the iPad.

Samsung has not yet set a price for Galaxy but has said telecommunications operators will set their own levels when it goes on sale starting next month in Europe and later in the U.S. and Asia.

The device supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 3G cell phone networks.
